Old age home gets a facelift

Renovations at the Springs Retirement Village (SRV) are going according to plan.

Phase one is currently under construction and includes the mid-care and luxury unit sections.

The roof of the mid-care unit will be put up by Tuesday (June 2), and the plan is to have both sections completed by September.

Building contractor Mario Tavares says phase two consists of renovations of the administration block and frail care section.

This will start shortly after the completion of phase one.

The SRV was taken over by the Methodist Homes for the Aged (MHA) last year when plans were made to give the village a facelift.

When the MHA management discovered the need of rental units, they soon added the luxury units to the renovation list.

At the sod-turning ceremony that took place in February, the MHA chief executive officer Kelvin Glen apologised in advance to residents for the noise and discomfort they might experience.

Full-time site manager Theresa Fry can’t wait for the end result.

The renovations are expected to be complete by January.
