No star rating for gardens

The gardens at the Springs Police Station and Springs Home Affairs are not being maintained.

This is the opinion of Springs resident Melanie Boucher, who recently visited the two departments for business.

She claims the local police station was renowned for beautiful gardens and used to win awards.

Melanie feels the garden at the Home Affairs premises across the road from the police station, are also in a neglected state.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the police station’s gardens are maintained by a garden service.

“Every Friday between 1.30pm and 3pm, SAPS management cleans the building and surrounding area,” he says.

As for the poor condition of the block of flats on the SAPS premises, Ramphora says an application to the Department of Public Works to have the building repaired has been submitted.

He is not sure when the application will be granted.

Springs Home Affairs office assistant administration director Wilna Birkholtz says she will respond to the Addie’s query about the gardens after consulting with the communication department at their head office.

No response was received from the department at the time of going to print.
