Falling tree damages wall

A Daggafontein couple's worst fears have been realised.

In an article on the Addie’s website, ‘A disaster waiting to happen’, it was recently reported how George Janse van Rensburg (70) and his wife Baby (66) believed a leaning tree may be hazardous to their property.

They explained that all the trees across the road from their property in Kestrel Road were recently cut down, expect for one.

The remaining tree was leaning towards the couple’s home, and they feared it would fall over and cause considerable damage.

This has indeed happened.

Baby says she heard a loud noise last Wednesday at 10am.

When she went to investigate, she discovered the tree had been cut down by Ekurhuleni Metro workers, and the tree had fallen on her property’s boundary wall, damaging it.

“The tree broke various parts of the concrete wall,” she explains.

Baby adds the metro told her to get three different quotes, and they will fix the wall.

“The house is in my daughter’s name and she lives in Pretoria, and my husband isn’t here, so how am I supposed to get these quotes?” she asks.

The Addie is awaiting comment from the metro.
