Cigarette robbers nabbed

Springs police were quick to react to a business robbery that took place in Stoffberg Road, Persida on Thursday (May 21).

Two men, one armed with a gun, entered the shop at 1.15pm, and threatened to shoot the owner.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the robbers demanded cash and cigarettes.

The owner gave them the items and they fled the scene on foot.

Police were alerted, chased the men and were able to apprehend one of them

The SAPS then followed up on information, and arrested a second man in Daveyton yesterday (May 22).

A BB gun was found in his possession.

Ramphora says this gun is designed to shoot ball-shaped bullets.

The men will remain in custody at the Springs police cells until their court appearance.
