Epilepsy sufferer’s grant gets stopped

A woman who has been suffering from epilepsy since the age of three, is no longer receiving a disability grant.

Aneta de Beer (50) hasn’t received her disability grant since December and has not received any explanation as to why it has stopped.

She and her husband, Johann (67), went to the Far East Rand Hospital to re-apply for the grant, but without any luck.

“My wife has been suffering from epilepsy since she was a little girl and was treated at Epilepsy South Africa for 17,” says de Beer.

He adds they are suffering without the grant money.

The couple’s only source of income is Johann’s pension, the majority of which is spent on rent, leaving them with little for the rest of the month.

Johann and Aneta have tried multiple times to get her grant reinstated, but have been unsuccessful at various doctors.

The Addie sent a query to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) but has not yet received any response.
