Two unlicensed guns seized

Two stolen guns found on suspects.

The Germiston Flying Squad followed a suspicious looking vehicle on the N17 and stopped it as it turned into Anchor Road, Grootvaly Agricultural Holdings at 10.05am, today (Monday).

They were soon joined by members of the Springs Crime Prevention Unit who searched the vehicle and the five suspects.

They found two unlicensed 9mm guns and two fully loaded magazines on two of the suspects.

According to one of the suspects, the gun belongs to his brother while the other suspect claims he found the gun at a hostel in KwaThema.

After the SAPS checked the serial numbers on the guns, it was found the Norinco Star 9mm pistol was recently stolen from a security company in Durban, while the Taurus 9mm pistol was stolen from a man in Actonville, Benoni.

The police also took three cellphones and a wallet from the suspects.

SAPS will check the suspects’ profiles to see if they are connected to any filed cases.

The Springs police spokesman was not available for comment at the time of publishing.
