Learner takes SAPS to dagga plantation

Springs police removed about 60 dagga plants from a field in Kingsway today.

This comes after a a packet of dagga was found on a 15-year-old learner from a local high school at 11am.

Springs police spokesman Amanda Greybe says when the teenager refused to tell the teachers from where he got the dagga, the SAPS were called.

The boy explained to police members he goes to an open field in Kingway where there is a small dagga plantation.

The learner allegedly visits the plantation, picks and then dries the leaves himself.

Greybe says the learner then took officers to the field.Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department officials Louis Els and Louwtjie du Toit accompanied Greybe and police member Yolanda Cothill to Kingsway, where they found and removed the plants.

Greybe says the learner also pointed out a house in Springs Extension where dagga is sold.

No arrests have been made, but the boy will be counselled and placed in a programme to help him with his addiction.
