UPDATE: Gert will be buried on Friday

Foreign pathologist offers to examine baby's body to determine cause of death.

No forensic results are currently available after the death of four-month-old-baby Gert Fourie on Monday.

The infant’s father Gert Fourie (20) says they were informed that it might take two years or more before they will have any answers.

He says he did, however, ask the local pathologist if any traces of milk were found in the baby’s lungs, and this was allegedly confirmed to have been the case.

“It is exactly what we suspected,” says Gert.

However, they called in the assistance of an overseas forensic specialist, who will do a thorough forensic test on the infant.

According to Gert this man, whom they do not wish to name, is conducting the investigation free of charge.

Gert says Monique Fourie (21) will not go back to the creche to resume her position.

The baby allegedly died at a creche in Springs after his mother, who was employed at the centre, handed him over to another staff member.

When she was called by the owner of the creche, she rushed to her baby and found blood running from his nose and the body was already cold.

She repeatedly tried Cardiopulmonary resuscitation on her son.

After phoning her husband and family, she rushed him to a doctor’s consulting rooms in Springs, where they also tried to resuscitate the baby.

The baby was declared dead.

The family are grateful for all the SMS, facebook posts and messages, and sat they are speechless at the overwhelming surprise of the news that the pathologist will examine their child’s body free of charge.

The infant will be buried tomorrow (Friday) at noon from the AP Kerk in Edelweiss.
