Sex education implemented in some primary schools

Sex education is being introduced to Grade Seven learners at some primary schools in the country.

Many parents have mixed feelings about their children being taught about sex from such a young age.

Some of our readers responded to a post on our Facebook page.

Keleabetswe Mpye says it’s a good thing for children to get the correct information as early as possible, instead of being misinformed or misled by their peers.

Others disagree and say it is far too early for them to learn about sex.

“I say it is way too early. Although it is something you should know about, in my opinion, I would say they should start discussing it from Grade Eight and up.

“They should not be growing up this fast with knowledge of adult activities at such a young age,” says Jane Ras.

Bruce Gardner thinks that if it helps stop rape and teenage pregnancy, it’s progress.

“I believe that in this day and age Grade Six is an ideal age to begin sex education, our children are far more advanced than we think,” says Chelle Bellion.
