Man behind bars after stashing drugs in bin

Two Springs police constables arrested a 32-year-old man for possession of dagga on Monday (May 4).

While on routine patrols at 11.30am, the officers saw a man throwing a black bag into a dustbin in Second Avenue, CBD.

Springs police spokesman Amanda Greybe says the man’s actions looked suspicious and the officers approached him.

The man claimed it was just a bag of rubbish, but when the two constables took him to the dustbin, they opened the bag and found parcels of dagga.

The dagga has a street value of approximately R500.

Greybe says the parcels were individually wrapped in newspaper and brown paper.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Springs police cells where he will remain until he appears in court.
