Metro sets up anti-xenophobic hotline

As a sign of commitment to curb prejudice against foreign nationals, the Ekurhuleni Metro, in partnership with Vodacom, has established a dedicated hotline to report xenophobia related violence.

The hotline is a temporary channel which will be discontinued when the threats are over.

This service is free and the municipality guarantees callers anonymity.

Residents can dial *134*422# to access the services using any phone – the service is not limited to those with smartphones or 3G connectivity.

The caller will need to provide their details such as the area where there is a threat and a short description of the incident.

All reported incidents will be routed by the City’s Customer Relations Management Correspondence Centre to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).
