Armed robbers steal cash and liquor from Selcourt shop

A cashier at a shop in Ramona Road, Selcourt was assaulted during a business robbery on Monday.

The man and a colleague were about to close for business just before 1pm when they were approached by two unknown men.

They noticed one of the men was carrying a stack of R50 notes in his hand.

As the two men approached the pair, they suddenly grabbed them and pushed them back inside the shop.

It was then that another man, who was armed, entered the shop.

They two victims were tied up and pushed to the floor, while one of the robbers tried to open a till.

Springs police spokesman Amanda Greybe says when the suspect failed to open it, he ordered the cashier to do so.

All the cash was taken from the till.

The robbers demanded the office keys and asked if the shop was under surveillance.

After about 15 minutes, the two victims could hear the suspects taking liquor from the office.

The cashier pressed the panic button when he realised the robbers were no longer inside the shop .

A security company arrived on the scene and untied the two victims, and police and the shop owner were notified.

The suspects left the scene with cash, liquor and the the cashier’s cellphone and cash.
