Blockage removed by metro

Iphigenia Gavanos from Strubenvale is excited to breath in fresh air again.

It was reported in last week’s Addie (‘What stink?) how Gavanos had to live with the terrible smell of sewage for three weeks, after her yard was flooded with effluent.

The Ekurhuleni Metro finally attended to the problem on Tuesday (April 22).

According to metro spokesman Themba Gadebe there was a huge blockage in the area caused by foreign objects in the network’s sewer line.

A blockage reoccurred in the same area, and when technicians attended to the blockages, they found bricks to be the cause.

The technicians have cleared the blockage and all the missing or stolen manhole covers have been replaced.

“The Strubenvale resident’s yard will be cleaned once the water has dried up,” says Gadebe.

Gavanos says the metro workers confirmed they took out paving bricks, pieces of concrete, paper and other objects from one of the manholes.
