Digby Wells Environmental invites the community to attend another public meeting on the proposed sludge disposal facility and pipeline, associated with the treatment of acid mine drainage.

The meeting will be held on May 5, at Stable Inn, from 6pm to 8pm.

At this meeting, maps of the proposed project will be viewed, and issues will be verified.

These maps are based on consultations with interested and affected parties to date.

Steve Horak of Digby Wells says everyone will be given the opportunity to clarify questions and issues, or raise further comments.

Residents and other affected parties can obtain printed copies of the Draft Environmental Impact Assessment Report at the Springs and Bakerton libraries, which will be available until May 20.

Many stakeholders have already commented on the final scoping report for the proposed sludge disposal facility and pipeline, which is situated close to the number three shaft at Grootvlei.

The government on national level announced the project in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, Act 107 of 1998.

The proposed plant has to be erected to treat acid mine water with lime to neutralise it, before the treated water is discharged into the Blesbokspruit.

To obtain these copies, contact the Springs library on 011 999 8804 or the Bakerton library on 011 999 8826.
