Armed robbers raid business

A guard was assaulted and held at gun point.

Several items stolen during a robbery at a business in Grootvlei on Sunday, were later recovered.

It is believed a large group of armed men confronted a security guard patrolling the premises in Van Niekerk Road, at about 7pm.

The guard was assaulted and held at gunpoint, before being tied up.

Springs police spokesman Amanda Greybe says it was first suspected that the robbers only took tyres from trucks and trailers.

When the owner of the business arrived, however, he unlocked the building and noticed five truck batteries, a fully stocked toolbox, five car radios, a computer box, two angle grinders, a welding machine and two electrical extension cords were missing.

Police arrived on the scene and searched the premises with staff from a security company.

They found a tyre on a wall at the back of the premises, and when they looked through an opening in the wall, they saw the two electrical extension cords, the computer box and toolbox on the ground.

Greybe says these items were recovered, but the rest was taken by the suspects.

No shots were fired.
