Still in the dark

Eskom implemented load shedding last week.

Many residents complained that either the Ekurhuleni Metro or Eskom were not following the schedules in regards to when load shedding was due to start, while others say they found the schedules accurate.

At this point, Eskom says there is no definite time frame as to how long load shedding will last.

Eskom does load shedding as a last resort to prevent a system collapse as a result of demand exceeding supply.

In a media statement, Eskom says the additional capacity that will reduce some pressure on the grid is anticipated as the new power stations, Medupi and Kusile, get fully commissioned.

Unfortunately there is no definite date for this commissioning, but a substantial amount of work has already been done.
