Nail scissors and dagga seized at local high school

Nail scissors seized and dagga sniffed out at local high school.

Nail scissors and a knife were seized during a police search for drugs at a local high school today (April 14).

The search was conducted at the school upon the principal’s request.

Springs police spokesman Amanda Greybe says police confiscated the nail scissors as they are considered dangerous weapons.

During the search, police also seized a knife, lighters, cigarettes and a small packet of dagga.

Greybe says the search was held in conjunction with the Ekurhuleni K9 Dog Unit and the Public Order Policing Unit.

The police received information on dagga stashed in the toilet tank and one of the EMPD dogs from the K9 unit sniffed out the packet of dagga.

The parents of the children who were found with dagga were called to the school.

Greybe says the police, principal and school counsellors met with the parents.

“We explained to them that help and support for the children is available,” she says.

Searches will be conducted on a regular basis at various schools in an effort to prevent crime and remove drugs from schools.

Greybe stressed that parents should be aware of their children’s activities and behaviour.
