Meter readings give elderly problems
Many questions were raised by the community about having to take photos of water meter readings every month.
Dollie du Plooy (81) doesn’t understand how the municipality expects elderly people, who do not have access to email or computers, to give them their monthly water meter readings.
“A few months ago the community started taking photos of their water meters and sending these to the municipality via email for more accurate readings,” says du Plooy.
She says her daughter has been helping her take the photos and send them via email to the municipality because she does not have access to email.
“But what if my daughter is not able to help me anymore?
“How am I going to get the meter readings to the municipality?
“I don’t find it acceptable at all as it creates a lot of trouble to go through for people who do not have the means to do it electronically,” she says.
The Addie contacted Ekurhuleni, but they did not respond to the set deadline.
