A buzzing annoyance

A bee hive on their neighbour's property is a nuisance for a family in Geduld.

Marietjie Strydom says they cannot open any windows in their house as they fear the bees will enter the house as they already enter through the roof.

“My son CJ is deathly allergic to bees and we can’t let him play outside, he already suffers from a disease which is extremely rare,” she says.

Strydom says they have been struggling with these bees for five years and are afraid to go outside.

She says her daughter, Danielle, is a epileptic and she also fears for her safety.

“We are hopeless, we asked them (the neighbours) on multiple occasions to do something to get rid of the bees, but they aren’t doing anything about it.”

However, the owners of the house where the bees have made a hive in the roof, Willem (59) and Susan Kuyler (58), claim they can’t do anything about it.

“It’s a force of nature, how can you control where the bees decide to go,” says Kuyler.

“We cannot afford to get someone to remove them and we have tried spraying them with insect poison.”
