Pumps are causing a sewage overflow

The sewage smells awful and pops up through the drains in next door houses.

The pumps at the pump station next to the block of cluster houses in Dal Fouche are blocked, causing sewage to overflow.

Dal Fouche resident Pieter du Plessis claims every time he flushes a toilet he can hear air bubbles bursting from the shower drain.

Next to his house there is a sewage drain and it also overflows from time to time.

Pieter says the metro did send out an inspector to investigate on Wednesday.

The inspector told Pieter the grits were allegedly stolen and need to be replaced.

It is believed he also said the pumps are not working and need to be replaced.

According to the inspector the grits catch all the big sewage, preventing it from going into the pump.

When the Addie visited the scene they found cloths that had allegedly been pulled from the pumps.

The sewage smells awful and Pieter claims the smell pops up through the drains in his house regularly.

“We need the get this problem solved as it has been ongoing since September last year,” he says.

No comment was received from the metro at the time of going to press.
