Lamp post not fixed as metro claims

The metro fixed the lamp post yesterday (March 4).

The owner of a business in the Springs central business district is not happy about the metro not finishing what they started.

A lamp post was knocked down by a car late last year and the business owner, Severo Fernandes (snr), reported it to the metro.

He says when they arrived, they removed the pole as it was hanging dangerously over the road.

Later on the metro came to replace the pole, removing the paving and digging a hole to plant it.

That was all done well, but they left the hole open, the pile of sand still needed to be removed and the paving should have been replaced.

Severo says when he questioned the workers, they claimed other contractors will have to remove the soil and replace the paving bricks.

He has been reporting the matter to the metro since October last year, but according to the metro’s records the job was completed.

In fact Severo claims the metro referred them to the City of Johannesburg municipality.

“They informed us to dial the given number and choose the option for electricity, why I don’t know,” he says.

As a last resort he contacted the Addie for assistance as he claims he paid for the paving around his business and not the metro, therefore they should fix it.

Spokesman for the metro Themba Gadebe, says the streetlight has since been repaired and is in a working condition.

The photocell of the streetlights further down the road has been replaced and the lights are now on auto function.

Gadebe says the street pole was replaced and the paving was reinstated last Wednesday.

Severo confirmed that everything is done.

He says it is not a problem to remove the sand.
