Man shooting at alleged robbers in Dersley

Suspects left the scene in a hurry damaging their vehicle in the process.

At 10.15am, this morning (March 3), a man was watching TV at his house in Akwamaryn Street in Dersley.

The 46-year-old man allegedly heard a car stopping and dogs barking.

When he went to investigate he allegedly saw three suspects lifting his gate of the track.

Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora, says the man went to fetch his firearm at the time.

As he returned to the front door, he heard the suspects breaking down the security door.

Ramphora says when the man opened the front door one of the suspects withdrew a gun.

The man allegedly fired seven shots in the direction of the suspects who were running away at the time.

It is believed the suspects jumped into a gold Toyota Corolla firing back at at him.

Ramphora says the windscreen of the suspect’s vehicle shattered from the shots fired by the man.

The suspects allegedly couldn’t get away fast enough, as they were driving into the fence and in the process lost the right hand mirror of their vehicle.

They left behind a crowbar and a screwdriver.

“The man isn’t injured and it isn’t known if one of the suspects were wounded,” says Ramphora.

The vehicle didn’t have any number plates.

A case of attempted house break-in and attempted murder was opened at the Springs Police Station.
