Pollution station not fully operational

The metro with the help of the appointed service provider are currently addressing the matter.

The Pollak Park air quality station is still experiencing challenges in providing full air quality analyses.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman of the Ekurhuleni metro says this only ambient air quality monitoring station in Springs is partially analysing the ambient air after most of its analysers were replaced recently.

The metro, however, still experiences challenges with one type of analyzers at this station.

Gadebe assures that the metro with the help of the appointed service provider are currently addressing the matter.

He says the metro is committed to ensuring that all its air quality monitoring stations are fully functional and are measuring the ambient air in line with the national norms and standards.

The metro also requests all stakeholders and environmentalists to participate in this year’s review process of Ekurhule/gtits Air Quality Management Plan (AQMP).

This review process seeks to provide direction on identifying the main sources of air pollution and the extent of their negative impact on human life, as well as to address the effects of emissions from industrial sources, to give effect to best practices in air quality management and to improve air quality.

The stakeholder engagement process will be in a form of meetings, reviewing of reports, and the submission of comments during the AQMP review process.

Any one wishing to participate in this AQMP reviewing process needs to register within 30 days of issue with Edmund Van Wyk on e-mail Edmund.vwyk@ekurhuleni.gov.za and call him at 011 999 2470/2971.
