Water in Nigel Road cause of serious accident

A woman lost her life despite paramedics attempt to save her.

The driver of a silver Corsa Lite lost control of the vehicle when it hit a dam of water in Nigel Road at the N17 bridge at 1.45pm, today (February 28).

When the EMPD and Netcare 911 arrived the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services were already on the scene.

Spokesman for Netcare 911 Santo Steinmann says the paramedics found a man and a woman both in a critical condition.

The man was treated on the scene and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.

The woman’s condition deteriorated and despite the attempts by the paramedics to save her life, she died due to the extend of her injuries.

A witness to the accident Chip van Tonder says he knew about the water under the bridge in the left hand lane.

When he changed lanes he noticed a silver car closing in on him in the left hand lane.

“I touched the brakes several times, hoping the driver will notice, slow down and changed lanes,” he says.

But before he knew not, the car hit the water and the vehicle swerved.

The car allegedly overturned, rolled several times before it hit the side of the road nose first and flipped, hitting a tree.

The Netcare 911 helicopter arrived within nine minutes, of the call, but the had already been dead by the time of its arrival.

Members from the Selpark Community Police Forum assisted the EMPD with redirecting the traffic as a section of Nigel Road, going to Springs central business district, were closed.
