Chantal still heartbroken

Things started going horribly wrong for the Rossouw family when eight of their cats died.

They decided to share their story with the community after the article ‘Seven cats killed within a week’ was published in last week’s Addie.

Chantal love her cats dearly and before she knew it, she had 21 cats, ranging from four months to nine years old.

Still mourning her angel cat that had to put to sleep in December last year, she found two other cats dead.

Only two days later Chantal found another cat, which she tried to save, but had no choice but to put him to sleep.

“Three days later I had to rush another cat to the vet,” she says.

The vet kept the cat there for observation, but it died the next day.

Four days went by before they found one of her cats in her basket barely breathing.

Chantal says she died as well.

At the end of January when she returned home from work, she noticed one of her cats didn’t look well, when she picked her up, the cat died in her arms.

“That was the most heartbreaking experience, I felt so helpless for not being able to help her,” she says.

Just one day after the cat died in her arms, she found another cat dead and one missing, which was never found.

That is eight cats in a short period of time.

The confirmation of her cats being poisoned came when she moved away from Daggafontein.

She claims the cats were fed well and they never had a shortage of toys.

“Spending time with the cats is the greatest way to pass time,” she says.

With the cats being her number one priority, it breaks her hearts to have lost so many of her children.

She can’t understand why people would kill an innocent animal.

The question remains why these people don’t discuss the issues they were having with the cats with her, instead of killing her innocent animals.

Not that she can see that the cats would have been a problem as they didn’t roam around.

She wants the ‘killers’ to know how much pain and misery they have caused them, but realises they will never understand the pain.
