Damaged manhole covers are dangerous

Two manhole covers in Dorset Street, Springs Extension are not properly fitted which can cause damage to vehicles.

Living in the area, Theresa du Toit says the manhole cover on the corner of Dorset Street and Main Avenue was stolen in January.

She claims it was replaced with an orange cone which was stolen within a week.

The other manhole lid posing a danger is on the corner of Dorset and Angeli streets.

She claims motorists wouldn’t be able to see the manhole lid when they turn from Angeli Street into Dorset Street.

With only the metal and a piece of cement left none of the lids are properly fitted onto the manholes.

Springs Extension resident Heniel Mathee feels the metro shouldn’t wait for the residents to report manhole problems.

“They should start replacing all the manhole covers in Springs and surrounding areas,” he says.

No comment was received from the metro at the time of going to press.
