Resident claim vehicle damage from metro

Residents needs to complete a form to claim damage caused by op manholes.

Dawie van Rensburg’s vehicle was recently damaged by an open manhole in Springs central business district.

Driving down Fifth Avenue he pulled into the first available parking on the corner of Eleventh and Fifth avenues.

He says there were no warning signs or barricades of the open manhole and before he knew it, he drove over it.

The left rear tyre burst as it hit the manhole.

“The noise was so loud that people stormed out of the shops to see what was going on,” he says.

With a damaged rim and other damage to the vehicle Dawie wants to know who is going to take responsibility for the damages.

According to a shop owner, Ricky Naidoo, several vehicles were damaged over the past months due to this open manhole.

He says he reported the missing manhole cover to the metro several times.

He claims that within three weeks four vehicles, including Dawie’s, were damaged by the same open manhole.

The metro was seen fixing the manhole cover and the area around it with cement.

No comment has been received yet with regards to who will take responsibility for the damage.
