UPDATE: Armed robbery victim is doing well

The man's thumb is crushed and wasn't amputated.

The man that was shot in the chest during an armed robbery on Saturday has been moved to a medical ward.

The robbers gained entry through the lounge window at 1.40am, when they allegedly threw a garden chair through it.

When the victim heard the noise, he immediately reported a break-in over the CPF radio.

Chairman of the Eastvale CPF Rina Marais says the victim couldn’t say how many robbers were involved.

The robbers opened fire and one of the bullets hit the victim in the chest.

He again reported over the radio that he was injured.

She claims he returned fire with his paintball gun and followed them outside where it is believed they jumped over the wall.

The robbers allegedly fired more shots in the direction of the victim when one of the bullets went through the sliding door and through a cupboard inside the house.

Paramedics treated the victim on the scene.

He was then taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated in the intensive care unit.

His thumb was allegedly crushed but not amputated as previously reported.

She claims the victim was discharged from the intensive careunit earlier this afternoon and moved into a medical ward.

Spokesman of the Springs police Captain Johannes Ramphora was not available for comment.
