Resident’s view on Bedford Centre shooting

Charles Reed shares his frightening experience, of being in the Bedford Centre yesterday, with the readers.

“I was unaware of what went on yesterday until my family contacted me to ask if I am OK,” says Reed.

This Selcourt resident owns a business on the eighth floor of the Bedford Centre where chaos erupted yesterday when gun men entered the centre and opened fire on security guards and civilians alike.

He claims it was only around noon when he heard people shouting and shots fired that he realised something was wrong.

Most of his staff members were allegedly locked in shops on the ground floor and couldn’t get back to the office.

When they finally got back to the office around 3pm, they locked the office behind them.

He says this happened because about 30 suspects targeted the cash-in-transit people on the escalators on the other side of building where the shooting took place.

“It was the most frightening experience,” says Reed.

He claims aside from the two suspects who were injured during the shoot-out, the gang got away with a huge quantity of money.

Reed says the suspects allegedly planned the robbery in the downstairs Wimpy.

“Rumours (which the Addie cannot comment on) have it the centre used to be run by the mafia about eight to nine years ago as some of the restaurants still have bullet proof windows,” says Reed.

He says how it went down is a miracle as all the security in the centre are armed.
