Open manholes pose a threat

Two open manholes in Selection Park, on the corner of Morris Crescent and Mcann Street.

Lorraine Law, a resident in the area, says she has complained twice to Ekurhuleni and nothing has been done yet.

“They have been open for about three or four months now and it is extremely dangerous,” she says.

Tree branches has been stuck in one of the open manholes to make it more visible to motorists, but still poses a threat as pedestrians can easily fall into the manhole.

The other has been covered with a cement lid that is too big and is knocked off easily by passing cars, which can cause serious damage to vehicles.

The Addie has contacted Ekurhuleni but has not yet received any response.

Kiara Saffy (8) at the open manhole, stuffed with tree branches to make it more visible.
Both manholes can be seen in the street in Selection Park.
