No medicine shortage in Springs

The pharmacist in charge at FERH has confirmed that the pharmacy is running and working at full capacity.

The patients at the Far East Rand Hospital (FERH) will get all the medicine they need.

The Addie investigated the possibility of a shortage in medicine in Ekurhuleni after it was reported that there was a shortage in medicine in Gauteng Hospitals during December.

At the beginning of December Health MEC, Qedani Mahlangu said there was a 23% shortage of essential medicines, which was confirmed to be stabilised during the second week of January.

The shortage came to light during December after the MEC reacted to a question the DA asked in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

The cause of the shortage of over 10 000 medicines, including antibiotics and painkillers, Mahlangu reported about was because the newly contracted medicine suppliers had to build up stock after the previous contractor’s term ended.

It was confirmed that there is no shortage at the FERH, from the the second week in January, by FERH spokesman FERH, Hendrik Buda.

He says that they have all the medicine they need to treat their patients.

Buda say the pharmacist in charge at FERH has confirmed that the pharmacy is running and working at full capacity.

He says there are one or two medications out of stock, but they are expecting these to be delivered soon, because the pharmacy personnel have already ordered them.

The Addie did send a request to Prince Hamnca, the spokesman of the MEC of Health, but has received no answer yet.
