Good work Springs SAPS

Springs police promised a zero tolerance approach and are sticking to their promise.

Five hijackers have been arrested in Etwatwa earlier today after three weeks of indepth investigation by Springs police detectives.

“The success of this arrest is due to the dedication and hard work of the detectives,” says Springs police spokesman captain Johannes Ramphora.

The hijackers posed as police officials and were using tracker jamming devices during the hijackings.

Ramphora says the devices are used to block the tracker, cellphone and alarm signals, which makes it impossible to trace where the truck is.

Since December 27, when the first of a series of truck hijackings took place on a section of the N12 bordering Springs, local police detectives have been investigating the cases and following leads.

One of the truck hijacking victims is believed to have been a Luanda diplomat.

His ML 350 Mercedes truck was hijacked on December 27 by suspects posing as policemen.

It is believed these five suspects recently hijacked vehicles as well in Springs and surrounding areas.

The police request other truck or vehicle hijacking victims to come forward to investigate if their cases can be linked to the five suspects.

These victims can contact the Springs police on 011 365 5719/20.
