Springs police arrest man for perjury

The 38-year-old man filed a false complaint at the Springs Police Station.

A man was arrested after he claimed his house was broken into and money stolen.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says the man, who is 38 years old, reported the break-in and theft at the Springs Police Station yesterday.

The money that was allegedly stolen was meant to be paid to the suspect’s employees.

After the suspect reported the matter to the police, the investigating officer started with the investigation.

Ramphora says the police discovered the man is a builder and contractor who never paid the people who worked for him.

It came to the police’s attention that when the suspect’s workers demanded their money for the work they have done, the suspect claimed the money was stolen during a break-in.

The suspect was arrested on the same day and a case of perjury was opened at the Springs Police Station.

The charge has not been read to him and he remains in custody at the Springs police cells.

He will appear in court soon.
