Popular take away in Petersfield burns down

The popular take away opposite Hoërskool Hugenote was partially burned this morning at 4am.

The security alarm went off and when the security company went to investigate they found the thatch roof was on fire.

They notified owner Jan Minnaar and the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services (EMS) immediately.

According to William Ntladi, spokesman for the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, when the firetrucks of Springs Central Fire Stationy arrived at the scene they found thatch roof was burning.

He says the owner of the building had no excess keys to the building and the firemen had to force entry into the building.

The one section of the building had a thatch roof and the one room burned down copletely while the other two rooms have water and smoke damage.

Minnaar says robbers lifted the tiles at the back of the building trying to gain entry which allegedly set the alarm off.

When the Addie visited the scene the owner said the robbers didn’t enter the building through the ceiling and he claims they might have set the thatch roof alight.

The course of the fire is still undetermined.
