Sassa payment cycle money will be available in February

South African Social Security Agent (Sassa) beneficiaries received their January grants earlier than usual.

The South African Social Security Agent (Sassa) payment cycle was a cause for concern for some beneficiaries as there were allegations that, within 10 days after payment, Sassa’s closure-of-payment cycle took place.

This allegedly left beneficiaries with with no money in their accounts.
Sassa spokesman Steve Mabona says January is a reconciliation month and any outstanding money will be available in February.

He explains if there was no activity within a certain payment cycle, money will be returned to the beneficiaries and only be available after the reconciliation process, in the second month thereof.

“The money will be available in the second month, for example, if there was no activity in an account in December, January will be the reconciliation month and the money will be available in February again.”

He advises beneficiaries to make sure that there is activity in their accounts before the closure of the payment cycle.

This cycle is on the 20th or 21st day of every month and withdrawal of any amount confirms that the account in use, hence money will be accessible in the following month.

Although an advert, informing beneficiaries that December payments will commence earlier than usual, was widely published in national newspapers, Mabona said “in future they will consider local media accordingly”.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to some of our beneficiaries,” he says.
