Man injured in manhole in CBD

Open Manholes pose danger to pedestrians in Springs and surrounding areas.

Reedville resident Mandla Mbetshelwa (22) hurt his leg in a manhole on the corner of First Street and Fifth Avenue, central business district (CBD), Springs late yesterday afternoon.

He said he wasn’t looking down while walking and didn’t notice the open manhole.

He managed to prevent himself from falling into it.

The injury to his leg prevents him from walking properly.

“I was on my way to a business in Eighth Street when this happened,” he said.

He feels strongly about the open manhole and the fact that it is deep enough for a small child to fall into it.

“The metro needs to up their act with all the open manholes in the CBD,” he said.

An update will follow as soon as the Addie receive comment from the metro.
