Duck pond has its own two fountains

Two sprayers are posing as fountains at the George Sutter Park duck pond.

A beautiful water display greets residents at the duck pond in Selection Park.

After months of relocating ducks and geese, doing repairs to the pond and drilling for water, the pond is almost back to its former glory.

During the Addie’s visit to the pond this afternoon the metro were cutting the grass in the park.

Chairman of the Selection Park Dam Project Hennie Brits says the pond is looking good and everything is falling into place.

Although the long grass on the island is a challenge at this moment, Hennie will make a plan to send a worker to the island on a small boat so that the grass can be cut.

The several broken benches around the pond will also be fixed soon and moved inside the fence.

Hennie says the committee will know by Monday when the metro will put up the fence.

One of the water drains running into the pond has been opened and the filter replaced to prevent refuse into the pond.

He says the rain water coming through the drain added to the water level in the pond.

Kathy Preston, a Selection Park resident, pointed to a frog that has been there since the pond was established in 1947.

She claims there were more of these cement frogs, but they disappeared over time.

Recently she decided to paint the frog green for it to be more visible.
