Vehicles damaged by sunken manhole cover

The manhole causing major problems in Casseldale is enough to raise the resident's eyebrows.

A manhole cover in in Greta Road was replaced last year. However, since September it has sunken into the hole, causing damage to vehicles when they drive over it.

Resident Ellen Strydom has reported this several times, but has given up on waiting for the cover to be replaced.

She claims numerous motorists have had damage done to their vehicles because of this manhole and that their vehicles had to be towed away.

“We have put cones, bags and buckets over the hole, but nothing helps to prevent the damages to tyres caused by the hole,” she says.

The photo clearly shows the sunken lid. According to Strydom the lid sometimes flips when vehicles drive over it.

The metro was notified of the complaint, but no comment was received.
