Residents using Rennie Street claim that, before the square cover was placed on the manhole, they put sticks in the hole  to try to warn motorists.
The sticks were allegedly removed and then replaced with a square cover.
It is not specified who replaced the cover.
Springs resident Fred Jones says the cover does not fit the hole and can cause damage to vehicles.
Turning from Lapping Street into Rennie Street, a huge pothole has formed.
Upon inspection, the Addie found that several motorists had to swerve to avoid their vehicles being damaged by the high square manhole cover.
Jones claims it might be the reason for the pothole that was formed directly opposite the manhole.
The metro was informed but no comment was made.
