A fun holiday romp

DVD: Tammy Reviewed by: Samantha Keogh Review made possible by: Times Media Home Entertainment

After losing her job, husband and car in one day, Tammy Banks (Melissa McCarthy) wants out of her small town existence.

With no money or transportation, her only way out is with her hard-partying grandmother, Pearl (Sarandon) who provides the car and the funds to get Tammy out of dodge.

The unlikely pair – who seem to hate one another – take to the road and straight into a slew of misadventures and brushes with the law.

While the movie has the potential to be both funny and heartwarming, I didn’t feel that the usually hilarious McCarthy did her best work in this film.

She seems have found a stereotype and is sticking to it – think her persona in Heat and Identy Theft and you have an exact picture of her character and attitude in Tammy.

Saradon put in a good performance but once again, not the sterling fare we are used to from this veteran actress.

It’s not a thinker’s movie, but Tammy is a great holiday movie if you are simply looking for 93 minutes of entertainment.
