Sassa offices have moved

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) opened their new office doors recently.

The office used to be in the old Sanlam Building in Fourth Street, central business district (CBD), but has now moved to the corner of Sixth Avenue and Fifth Street, CBD.

Steve Mabona, spokesman for Sassa, says the move needed to be done due to more efficient office space.

The grant and disability administration sections are now on the ground floor and is more accessible for disabled people with wheelchairs.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays a doctor appointed by Sassa will be available for medical assessments.

Mabona says the doctor only assess after the applicants have already visited their own doctors or clinics for medical reports.

“This is needed to make illment diagnosis more visible for the Sassa doctor.

Applicants with medical problems make two visits to the Sassa offices, one to get a reference and to make an appointment to see the doctor.

Their next visit will be to see the doctor.

Mabona says the Sassa doctor will assess if the applicant needs to get a temporary or permanent disable grant.

Similar Sassa services as available at KwaThema, Duduza and Tsakane.
