Electrical cable in place at duck pond

The metro has donated a 200m electric cable which was installed at the pumphouse at the George Suttter Park duck pond.

Last week Goosey Fernandes and his workers dug a trench, in which to bury the cable, from the old to the new pumphouse.

The new pumphouse is almost done and the roof will be put up soon.

Goosey’s workers built a cement “runway” for the water from the pumphouse to the pond, to allow the water to run freely when pumped into the pond.

He says it will look like a fountain once the water is pumped into the dam.

The sides are packed with rocks, the grass has been planted and the pump is fitted, but the metro has not supplied the fence yet.

Goosey says this will most probably being done in the new year.

Renovations to the park started two months ago and Goosey and his workers have worked continuously to get everything ready at the pond.

He says grids need to be replaced in the stormwater drains and have not been fitted yet as they are still waiting for them to be delivered.

These grids will prevent litter from entering the pond when it rains.

He is proud of what they have achieved in the two months since this project started.
