Illegal dumping annoys residents

Nothing helps to stop this dumping.

The illegal dumping at the end of Epidode Street is annoying residents living and doing business in that street.

Maureen Strongherline who is working at a training centre at the end of Epidode Street says this area has gone down since 2008.

People are driving past the rubbish dump in Dersley to dump their building rubble, garden rubbish and black bags full of household rubbish in the veld next to the business.

She thinks these dumpsters are Dersley residents and feels they are doing it because they are lazy.

Isolde Dobelin, Dersley resident and owner of the ground where most of the dumping takes place, says she has already dug trenches on parts of her property to avoid dumping.

This did not help much, because the dumping still takes place.

She asked for help everywhere and even erected a no-dumping sign boards.

“Nothing stops this dumping,” says Dobelin.

She hates the idea that people dump their rubbish on her doorstep, because in her business she promotes and teaches green principles, which is not happening on her doorstep.

The beauty of Dersley, a reason why she chose to live in Springs, is also spoiled now.

The Addie has contacted Ekuhuleni Metro for comment, but has received no comment yet.
