A treat for Bakerton senior citizens

On Sunday the Bhairavi Sungum of Springs, hosted its annual Day with Our Elderly Parents at the Bakerton Community Centre.

Kesavan Pillay the chairman, says it’s a momentous event in respect to all the Bakerton senior citizens, regardless of their cultural background.

“We use this event to show our gratitude to the older parents in thanking them for their dedication and contribution to the society,” says Kesaven Pillay chairman of the Sungum.

They all enjoyed the snacks and a scrumptious cultural meal after the entertainment.

The day was filled with songs by Dilip Parsot and Hanief Laher, dancing by Ishiqa and Sanam Singh and the Bhairavi Sungum of Springs’ Tamil School children.

Cae Naidoo turned 85 on Sunday and held hands with Rabiah Karolia (77) and Rajwanthie Nepar (85) to cut the birthday cake.

“Lots of prizes were won by several of the elderly,” says Pillay.

Each senior citizen received a gift after the event.
