Chamber trains peer educators

This is an initiative of the chamber's health and wellness

The Eastern Gauteng Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted its annual peer educators workshop in a community hall in Derby Road last Thursday.

This is an initiative of the chamber’s health and wellness forum where the peer educators of all the companies the chamber teaches each month come together to further their knowledge in health matters.

Present were peer educators from Sappi, Impala, Cobra and PFG, as well as organisations from the community, New Image and Wattville Outreach.

Pule de Roland-Phillips, chairman of the health and wellness forum, says this health and wellness forum started many years ago when the business sector, through the chamber, felt that they had to take part in combating Aids.

The forum, which started as the Aids Forum, diversified into addressing other chronic health and lifestyle conditions such as un-managed and untreated diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol levels – all of which can lead to cardio-vascular disease, heart attacks, stroke and death.
