It has come to the Addie’s attention that a metro department had issues regarding the environmental impact (EIA) of the pond.
The metro’s department of environmental resource has sent one of its workers to investigate the the allegations.
Lilian Kwakwa, from this department, visited the site last Thursday and said no EIA is needed.
She has not compiled her report yet, but the project is environmental friendly and she is “quite happy” with the fact that the committee and its workers is improving the environment.
She claims the metro’s issue was the electricity needed to connect the borehole pump.
Gert Parsons, the convener of the project, says Mkwakwa was impressed with the way the rocks are packed around the island and the sides.
Another impressive comment is the sleepers packed to make it easier for the ducks and geese to get into and out of the water once the pond has been filled and they are relocated back to the pond.
A full report on Kwakwa’s findings will be given to the metro and committee next week.
