The Boys Remember

Springs Boys' High School held its annual Remembrance Day for the old Springs High soldiers who fought in World War II, the Korean War and the Border Wars.

The day started with a school prayer lead by Donovan da Silva, Chief Executive Officer of 2015.

Four matriculates died in these wars:

Malcolm Dick matriculated from Springs Boys’ High in 1942. He was a pupil pilot and was killed during a night flight on March 13, 1944, aged 19.

Lieutenant William Alan Gale matriculated at the school in 1941. Missing in Action when he flew over Normandy on August 24, 1944 and was presumed dead on January 26, 1945, aged 20.

Lieutenant Jack Norman Lellyet matriculated in 1946 and was killed in action in Korea in March 1952, aged 23.

Candidate Officer (pilot) Gerard Genis left Springs Boys’ High in 1976 and was killed on December 13, 1977 in his Impala Mk II Jet, aged 19.

Many teachers and students were also remembered on this day.

The pouring rain didn’t deter families and friends from laying wreaths on the Remembrance Wall for those who will always be remembered at the school.
