Board your animals

Don't stay at home this holiday just because you're not sure what to do with your pet when you go away.

Debbie Miller from Springs SPCA says the best thing to do is to board your animal at a reputable boarding facility.

“We do have a boarding facility here and people are welcome to board their animals with us while they are on holiday,” says Debbie.

She strongly advises against leaving your pet alone at home with no-one to take care of it.

If you have someone who comes to feed it every day and check that everything is fine, then you can leave your animal at home.

Although it is still recommended that your animal is boarded.

Celeste Kleyn, manager of Springs SPCA says your animal must be vaccinated two weeks prior to boarding.

“If your animal isn’t vaccinated, we can’t board him,” says Celeste.

The owner must bring their animal’s own food and medication if the animal uses any.

Owners should also bring bedding for their cats as this makes cats feel at home when they smell their personal blanket.

Debbie says it’s not necessary for dogs as they will provide bedding and bowls for these animals.
