A growing lake
A small puddle of water is now turning into a large pond in Welgedacht.
For more than two years Welgedacht residents watched as a puddle of water became a lake.
At first residents thought the water they noticed was due to the rain, but thw body of water has grown since then.
Flippie Thorn, who has been working in Welgedacht for almost 25 years, says he recently discovered that water has been accumulating next to Evans Road.
First there was only a small puddle but this year it has grown to a small dam approximately 100 meters by 100 meters in diameter.
After visiting the site on Friday, he says it rather looks like a spring.
He says birds have been flocking to the dam and if it is spring water, environmentalists should investigate the origin.
He says the fact that the water is continuously running into a ditch and spreading fast confirms his suspicions.
However, “if it is a water leak, the metro seriously needs to investigate the source of the water,” he says.
Another Flippie thinks it is natural spring water seeping through the earth he still feels the metro should investigate.
“It is a beautiful site indeed,” he adds.
