No salaries bring closed post offices

Post offices in Springs and surrounding areas closed their doors last Thursday because workers' salaries were not paid on time.

Johan Kruger, spokesman for the SA Post office, says the payment of salaries was delayed by a number of hours due to a technical glitch.

Instead of receiving their salaries at midnight, they were paid later, during the day.

Springsites were under the impression it was because of the lagging strike.

Kruger says delays in postal delivery to major cities in Gauteng are still affected due to the strike.

Cities not affected by the strike, like Springs, suffer because their mail from abroad and parcel deliveries are delayed.

He says converting temporary staff into permanent employees is a time-consuming process and intimidation of staff is a big problem.

He believes this prevents other workers who are willing to work, doing their jobs.

Kruger says it is difficult to say when solution will be found to end the strike.
